CBBA Award Winners at the 2024 BNSW Annual Awards

On November 3, 2024, at the illustrious Qudos Bank Arena, the City of Blacktown Basketball Association (CBBA) celebrated a night of well-deserved recognition at the Basketball NSW Annual Awards. CBBA received multiple prestigious awards, spotlighting their exceptional contributions and dedication to the sport in 2024. This impressive sweep included:

  • Bianca McVicar - Volunteer Administrator of the Year

  • Lachlan Arford - Paid Administrator of the Year

  • CBBA - Chairman's Award (Association of the Year)

Each award reflects the hard work and dedication of the CBBA team, who have strived to elevate basketball within the Blacktown community, fostering development pathways and enriching the basketball experience for players, families, and fans alike.

Bianca McVicar: Volunteer Administrator of the Year

Bianca McVicar - CBBA Board Member

Bianca’s Volunteer Administrator of the Year award is a tribute to her exceptional contributions to CBBA’s representative program and her commitment to the association’s growth. In addition to her hands-on involvement, Bianca recently joined the CBBA Board, where she oversees the representative program, lending her expertise and dedication to enhance the experience for all players and families involved.

Her volunteer work extends well beyond administration. Bianca has managed player trials, assisted parents, supported team managers and coaches, and taken on the role of a team manager herself. She has also been instrumental in collecting representative fees, managing uniform distribution, and even providing transportation to players. Balancing these responsibilities while raising three young athletes of her own, Bianca’s work exemplifies the spirit of community and dedication that CBBA values.

Lachlan Arford: Paid Administrator of the Year

Lachlan Arford - CBBA General Manager

Lachlan Arford’s award as Paid Administrator of the Year reflects his transformative impact on CBBA since he joined the association four years ago. With a vision to expand CBBA’s reach and elevate its offerings, Lachlan has overseen the development of the association’s business model and internal governance structures, establishing a strong foundation for sustainable growth.

His leadership has driven the expansion of CBBA’s programs, creating pathways for players across all ages and skill levels and forging vital connections with local schools and community groups. His dedication to inclusivity is especially evident in the comprehensive female player pathway he established, which now supports girls’ teams across domestic and representative competitions. Through Lachlan’s strategic vision and commitment, CBBA has grown into a thriving hub for basketball in the Blacktown community, inspiring players, coaches, and families alike.

CBBA - Chairman's Award (Association of the Year)

Peter Nordstrom - CBBA Chairman

CBBA’s recognition with the prestigious Chairman's Award as Association of the Year is a testament to its outstanding achievements and forward-looking initiatives in 2024. This award celebrates CBBA’s dedication to growth, inclusivity, and strategic development across all areas of the association.

Key milestones in this recognition include the development of a five-year strategic plan set to launch in 2025, which will guide CBBA’s continued growth and community impact. The association has also introduced a wheelchair basketball program to expand access to the sport for all abilities, demonstrating CBBA’s commitment to inclusivity.

In addition, CBBA has undergone a restructuring of its governance and internal operations to enhance efficiency and support its expanding programs. This restructuring has been essential to ensuring that CBBA remains a model of effective organisation within the New South Wales basketball community.

Another significant accomplishment has been the completion of a full female basketball pathway, now supporting girls’ domestic and representative teams at every age level, along with a senior women’s representative team set to hit the court in 2025. CBBA has also actively invested in developing officials, coaches, and support staff by hosting referee courses, coaching courses, and score-table courses, which strengthens the infrastructure around the game.

CBBA’s achievements, dedication to inclusivity, and commitment to growth have made it a standout association, setting a high standard within the basketball community and ensuring a positive impact on players, families, and fans alike.

CBBA Chairman Peter Nordstrom has been at the heart of the Association since his induction and is a key contributor to the Association winning this award. Peter has volunteered his time over the past 5+ years to ensure Basketball in Blacktown has continued to grow.

Thank you to all our Board Members, Staff, Supervisors, Referees, Volunteers, Parents, Players and the rest of our entire community.
